Raskob Learning Institute

What?
Raskob Learning Institute (RLI), established in 1953, is one of the oldest continuously operating programs for children and adults with learning disabilities in California. RLI’s outstanding educational therapy service provides highly individualized diagnostic-prescriptive teaching. Students can receive remediation in a variety of areas, including reading basics, comprehension, composition, and math as well as assistance with study and organization skills.

Where?
While clients typically meet with clinicians in quiet, private rooms at our clinic located on Holy Names University campus, our services are flexible. Clinicians also meet with clients at their school site as well as at their homes. An additional fee is attached to services rendered off site.

When?
Educational therapy sessions typically occur after school, but may take place during the school day. Each session is 55 minutes and students are typically seen twice a week. Some students are seen daily. RLI operates year round with three semester sessions: Fall, Spring and Summer.

Who?
Raskob is staffed with highly qualified clinicians. Our instructors have Educational Therapy Certificates, Special Education Teaching Credentials and/or Masters Degrees. They all receive extensive supervision and training from our clinical supervisors. Clinicians are matched to students based on client needs, age and clinician area of expertise. Because of their strong backgrounds and extensive experience, Raskob clinicians are also able to conduct assessments, develop highly individualized treatment plans and present professional progress reports at the end of each session.

As Raskob does not adhere to a one-size-fits-all approach, techniques and materials that have been proven to result in significant improvement in the desired area are chosen. RLI clinicians draw on significant resources shared with the Raskob Day School, an elementary, middle and high school program for students with learning differences. Nevertheless, our core methodology is the Wilson Reading Program.

What is the cost?
The tuition for each semester is $2650. This includes thirty 55 minute sessions at $85 and a $100 fee for tutoring materials and report writing. Contracts with schools can be negotiated.

Results:
Educational therapy by sensitive and supportive clinicians provides students with a positive educational experience that bolsters student confidence and assists students in the development of their identities as learners. Students also make measurable progress in their academic skills and ability to use learning strategies. We at RLI are proud of our success rate.
